Foyer Resident Film Skills Workshop
Cork Foyer, the big white house at the top of the hill, is a transitional housing and training centre for young people aged 18 to 25 who were homeless or who are at risk of becoming homelessness. We aim to provide young people with a comfortable home and an environment that is conducive to learning, allowing young people to focus solely on their future during their stay.
The Foyer’s highly motivated staff team strives to encourage young people to develop independent living skills through clear cut support plans, internal training programmes and by positively encouraging young people to believe in their own ability, talent and skill set.
The facilities and services at the Foyer actively break down barriers to personal development and encourage young people to participate both within the Foyer and within their local community. Through strong partnerships, the Foyer is able to offer a spacious garden, a toddler play park with mini pet farm, a seasonal garden cafe and a community bicycle project whilst being only a 10 minute stroll from the City centre.
Organised by RAPID (Rejuvenating Areas through Planning, Investment and Development), the Cork Foyer Community Garden provided an ideal setting to hold an outdoor celebration on 10th June 2011. Over 100 volunteers and representatives of various community groups and agencies attended the event to celebrate Cork Volunteer week and the tremendous work undertaken.
The ambience of the event was enhanced by the smell of the barbeque provided by Denis Murphy and entertainment provided by the Cork Academy of Music and the Knocknaheeny Music Project.
